"We noticed that almost every time a group of entrepreneurs and technologists get together, there is much complaining about how hard it is to find good people, and whenever talented people are seeking cool places to work they complain of the avalanche of boring, faceless job ads in the traditional places," he said.
Many online job boards commonly feature advertisements from recruitment agencies that do not identify the employer. This is a problem for good technologists who care very much about who they work for, North said.
With the tagline "Jobs in technology from employers you know", Jobreel prohibits any advertisements from anonymous recruiters. By allowing job-seekers to know who they'll be working for, candidates are given a better sense of what to expect and can do their research.
"The broader market, particularly that serviced by employment agencies, treats employees as commodities," North said.
"Jobreel advertisers are much more selective. Only companies who care a lot about who they employ will be advertising on Jobreel, which is a pretty good selection of companies a talented developer might want to work at."
North expects a majority of Jobreel employers to be small technology companies with a young, exciting vibe, and who manage their own recruitment. Advertising on Jobreel is achieved via a simple online process. Once posted, advertisements appear right away, and stay on the site's front page for 30 days or until it is removed.
"We're careful to promote Jobreel amongst the right people – caring employers and talented people," he said. "We have good ties with universities, and are working to get the word out to technology conferences, user groups, and other places great developers hang out."
