The firm began testing the product after IT staff found that patching was taking up too much of their time: "Because the entire company relies on assistance from Dawson News IT employees, our team is always seeking automated IT tools to assist them in doing more with less," said Raj Mehta, senior systems administrator for Dawson New.
"Every time we needed to deploy a patch, we had to dedicate IT staff to the problem. This was made more difficult because many of the machines were located in multiple locations and were mission critical to our business."
After a month-long test, Dawson opted for PatchLink Update to automatically update its 16 branch offices.
Mehta said that when Microsoft issued monthly patches, the machine alerted IT staff if the patch was critical. The staff could then see how many machines needed patching.
The firm, which has 600 machines, is based in Croyden and delivers over one billion copy sales each year.
