Domino’s Pizza’s long-time group CIO Wayne McMahon has left to take up a chief digital and technology officer role at Hungry Jack’s owner Competitive Foods Australia.
McMahon led IT at the pizza maker for over seven years, and was named retail CIO of the year at the 2016 iTnews Benchmark Awards.
McMahon’s successor has been named as Terry Powell, who comes from a stint leading the technology division for Suncorp’s insurance business.
Prior to joining Suncorp in 2009, Terry held roles at Westpac and SMS Management and Technology, among others.
“In the role of Domino’s group CIO, he will work with the company’s group chief digital and
technology officer, Michael Gillespie, as well as the the global teams to ensure appropriate
technologies are employed across the company’s global network to bring efficiencies and new
ways to engage the company's customers,” Domino’s said in a statement.
The pizza chain’s CEO Don Meij said McMahon had “been critical” to the company’s “disruptive” projects in recent years, which have included trials of robots and drones to deliver pizzas.
Last year, the company moved its global online ordering system off AWS infrastructure-as-a-service to an Azure platform-as-a-service.
It also teamed up with natural language firm Nuance to create a virtual assistant for ordering pizzas, and also started using artificial intelligence technology in its kitchens to monitor pizza quality.
