Entries have opened for the 2024 Australian IoT Awards, which recognise impact and innovation in the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in Australian business, government and communities.
The awards are sponsored by IoT Skills Australia and are the official awards program of IoT Alliance Australia (IoTAA), the peak IoT industry body and IoT Hub, and its media partner IoT Hub.
The IoT Awards recognise the impact of IoT projects and use on Australia’s economy and society and celebrate those spearheading IoT innovation and good practice.
"We want to reward outcomes and the people making a difference. The technology is great, but its impact is what matters,” said IoTAA CEO Frank Zeichner.
“Better management of business operations and the environment, improving peoples’ well-being, provision of more reliable public utilities, benefits to the daily lives of remote communities – these are the type of outcomes judges will be looking for,” Zeichner said.
The awards will also seek to highlight the use of trustworthy, quantitative data for climate-related reporting.
“In Australia, mandatory climate disclosure requires qualitative data. We want to highlight those using trusted, timely and sufficiently granular quantitative data to support and underpin targeted, meaningful transition."
For the past seven years, the awards have judged projects from the likes of NSW Health, Newcrest Mining, Telstra, Jemena, City of Perth, CSIRO’s Data61, Outcomex, Endeavour Energy, Thinxtra, Sydney Water and Ambulance Victoria.
Last year’s winners included a meter data logger program, nominated by Telstra, which enabled Jemena to extend the life of legacy, analogue metering assets for tens of thousands of customers in high rise buildings while enabling remote meter reads.
Finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the IoT Awards announcement, which will take place over networking drinks and canapes at the IoT Impact conference on 13 June, 2024, at the University of Technology Sydney from 5pm on 13 June, 2024.
Finalists and winners will also be recognised publicly by IoTAA and IoT Hub.
Award categories now aligned with use case
The 2024 IoT Awards continue to recognise the use of IoT to enable environmental sustainability and industry productivity, among other outcomes.
The 2024 awards are now categorised by use cases, such as environmental monitoring, asset management, remote monitoring (including smart metering), industrial automation and digital twin innovation. See the full list of 2024 IoT Award categories.
A Trusted IoT Service Award will also be given to an IoT service that demonstrate trust through good security, privacy, fairness, transparency and accessibility.
A Research Award will showcase new IoT innovation and application.
