Ichthys is a gas field off north-west Western Australia that will be exploited by INPEX, a Japanese-owned oil company.

INPEX said overnight it would take up an asset tool made by Scottish vendor Asset Guardian Solutions, which also counts Woodside Energy among its Australian customers.

The company will use the tool to manage the hardware and software that controls its LNG plant, central processing facility, and floating production, storage and offtake vessel, according to a statement.

The tool will enable INPEX to update firmware and provide an "audit trail of all changes by INPEX staff to their process control hardware and software assets".

It would also enable the LNG giant to recover programmable systems faster "in the event of technical problems", the statement said.
