Sydney’s Macquarie University has revealed the University of Queensland’s deputy chief operating officer, Saveria Dimasi, will oversee Macquarie’s IT and data analytics functions as its inaugural vice-president of University Services and Strategy.
The new role takes up IT oversight, which previously fell under the control of the Macquarie’s chief operating officer Tim Beresford, who left the university at the end of last year to lead his own management consulting firm.
Dimasi is currently supporting UQ’s professional services and transformation processes. Prior to that, Dimasi was based in at the University of Melbourne as executive director of project services.
In that role, Dimasi was responsible for the planning and execution of construction and IT projects totalling more than $250 million a year.
As Macquarie University’s vice-president University Services and Strategy, Dimasi will be responsible for core corporate services such as property, IT, risk, data and analytics, sustainability, commercial entities such as U@MQ, MGSM Hospitality, as well as university-wide strategy coordination and execution.
“As we move into the next phase of our evolution we are looking for visionary leaders to ensure we are fit-for-purpose for the next 50 years, delivering what the student of today needs from a university,” vice-chancellor professor S Bruce Dowton said in a statement.
“This critical role plays a huge part in our ability to deliver a range of key services to our students, our staff and in their engagement with other stakeholders. I look forward to working closely with Saveria.”
Dimasi will officially take up the new role in December this year.
