Sydney Metro is on the hunt for a chief information officer (CIO), with incumbent Tommy Cheung returning to Transport for NSW in the new year.
In a recruitment advertisement, Sydney Metro said it wants someone to “lead the establishment, prioritisation and delivery of the organisation's investment in information systems, platforms and services”, as well as be responsible for its tech strategy and delivery.
Cheung took the reins at Sydney Metro in January this year.
At the time, Transport for NSW told iTnews it expected to fill the role vacated by Cheung internally within a year.
A Sydney Metro spokesperson this week told iTnews that “Cheung … is due to return to his substantive position as executive director of strategy and transformation at Transport for NSW in the new year.”
He had been in that role for a year and a half, following two years as CTO and CIO for Sydney Trains.
In its position description [pdf], Sydney Metro said the CIO role “also has a focus on digital transformation and the execution of IT strategy aligned to meet business growth.”
The Sydney Metro CIO will report to the organisation's chief finance and commercial officer.
