Woodside will bring predictive analytics systems to its entire liquefied natural gas (LNG) portfolio after a successful pilot at its Pluto LNG Plant, located in Australia’s north-west.
The gas miner said it had extended a long-running business arrangement with Accenture “to deliver an end-to-end analytics solution for real-time actionable insights on its LNG facilities”.
The systems will be used for predictive maintenance and to “support decisions to enhance production, safety and risk management”.
“Statistical modelling, data management and visualisation software will help combine huge amounts of production data to deliver business insights,” Woodside said in a statement.
“Data will be accessible to Woodside engineers at any time, from anywhere in the world using cutting-edge applications.”
Accenture will deliver the new system and also provide access to “a global pool” of data scientists.
Woodside and Accenture have been working together for over a decade, with early works targeting the gas giant’s SAP environment.
The gas miner has significantly ramped up technology investments this year as it seeks to carve out competitive advantage in a crowded sector.
Earlier this year, it unveiled its WITH strategy, which aims to innovate at all points of the LNG value chain, potentially leading to solutions that can benefit the wider LNG sector.
On the analytics front, Woodside is also a high-profile tester of IBM’s Watson platform, which it hopes will be able to take 30 years of historical data and ‘learn’ valuable patterns that can be exploited.
